We love to go out for breakfast, and that applies in Spain, also.  The streets are much calmer here in the morning, before they’re reclaimed by the partiers each evening.

This morning we tried out a funky place called Ojala.  We didn’t have to share our breakfast with the sour looking guy.  He kept walking.

Inside, Ojala is friendly and welcoming.

It’s got a kind of hipster/diner vibe I’ve not seen elsewhere.

The coffee and lemon cake were excellent.  Before leaving, I headed downstairs to use the restroom, and here’s what I found.

There’s a mini-beach in the basement!  In fact, to reach the restroom, you have to walk across a stretch of sand.

The bathroom itself was pretty funky, and though I’m not in the habit of taking pics in that location, I couldn’t resist this selfie.

We paid for breakfast and hit the streets for a morning walk-around.  There’s always more to see here.

We told this guy…

…that we found his goat.

…the Apocalypse.

We still haven’t discovered the Madrid cat barrio, but this kitty rules the book store, for sure.

She even has her own line of accessories.

I’m struggling with the translation, but I think the gist is:

“I only say:  Miau.  We teachers are more about listening.”

I dunno.  You tell me.

Miau.
